WHAT IS DVR ?
DVR full form is Digital Video Recorder
What does it do? – As the name itself says that its an electronic device that records connected camera videos and images and store it in the mass storage devices I,e, Hard drive, SD card, Server etc.
How does it work? – All the Analog CCTV Camera’s will be connected to DVR through the coaxial cable using the BNC connectors in order to record the CCTV videos and images. DVR will receive the image’s and videos from CCTV cameras and it compress it in H.264 & H.265 format and store it in pre directed / installed storage device .
As
DVR comes with the default BNC port , DVR and CCTV camera's can be connected to
each other only by using BNC connectors.

What types of CCTV camera’s that DVR supports?- DVR supports only a Analog HD and non HD camera’s. there are many types of analog HD & Non HD CCTV camera’s available in the market, i,e.. DOME camera, Bullet Camera, PTZ (Pan- Tilt- Zoom) camera, Fish Eye camera and many other types of camera’s.
How
many CCTV camera’s can be connected to DVR? –
it depends on the DVR that you are
connecting the CCTV camera’s to. In most
of the Brands DVR’s are built with 4
Channel, 8 Channel, 16 channel, and 32 channel.
Generally 32 Channel DVR is the highest
channel DVR that available in the open market.
• 4 Channel (port) – from 0 to maximum 4 CCTV camera’s can be
connected.
• 8 Channel (Port) –
from 0 to maximum 8 CCTV camera’s can be connected.
• 16 Channel
(Port) – from 0 to maximum 16 CCTV
camera’s can be connected.
• 32 Channel
(Port) – from 0 to maximum 32 CCTV
camera’s can be connected.
What is the Video resolution that DVR supports? – Well again it depend on the DVR that you have choose. It depend on the configuration it built with from the manufacturer. Generally DVR supports starting from standard definitions (SD) 640×480 to High definitions (HD) 1280×720, 1920×1080. recently few brands have launched DVR that supports and records videos with the 4k and we sure that very soon we will get see / use the DVR which supports 8K also.

DVR can be accessed through cloud? - Yes most of the DVR's will be having an option for its users where they can access the DVR in the cloud through the internet.
There
are many options to access the DVR from cloud. i,e.. Online portals, Desktop applications,
P2P ( Mobile Applications) etc.

Recorded Videos can be copied / Transfer or data backup can be taken from the DVR?
YES-- Data can be transferred to any
other external storage device. Most of the DVR has option of USB ports, through
that users can connect the external storage device to DVR and data can be
transferred.

What is the Storage Capacity of DVR?- Generally DVR supports up to 6 TB (Terra Bytes) internal hard drives. But Also very few DVR supports up to 8 TB (Terra Bytes)
There are few models available that
supports Dual Hard drives but even those DVR supports up to 8 Terra
Bytes (4 TB * 2) only.
How
many TV or Monitors can be connected to One DVR? - Normally
DVR comes with one port of the each VGA, HDMI, TV and AV output. By using switches or additional devices many
number of displays can be connected.
