Most commonly these cameras are used in an indoor, Main reason for using this in indoor is its wide-angle video coverage and also most of the Dome cameras are not a weather (climate) proof.
Dome Camera how it works? - Dome cameras are will be connected to DVR / NVR through the Coaxial cable. Dome camera capture the images and compress it in H.264 or H.265 format and send it to DVR / NVR as the video through the Coaxial Cable.
Most of the Brands Dome camera's comes with the NIGHT VISION which means most CCTV camera's by default comes with the infrared LED within it. There are few brands and models of Dome cameras which don't have the night vision is still available in the market.

How to choose the right lens that matches your requirements.?
The more high MM lens will capture very less area, and the very less MM lens camera will capture the more area (wide angle) .i,e- 6 MM lens camera will capture only 5 to meters distance and 2.8 MM cameras will cover up to 30 meters in distance.
Dome cameras do not have the Microphone inbuilt, which means if at all you wanted to capture the audio along with the video then you will have to install the microphone along with the camera.
These cameras have a fixed & PAN TILT ZOOM lens options. Regular Dome cameras are equipped with a fixed lens.
So we recommend you strongly before buying or installing the camera, please have a check on the camera lens details which will be easily seen on the camera box or product description.
Night Vision - Nowadays most of the Dome Cameras are built-in with Night Vision (infrared LED).
CCTV cameras can able to capture the clear video only with the proper lightings or with the infrared LED. with the help of infrared LED lights even in the zero external (full dark areas) lights CCTV cameras can capture the video with clarity.
Usually, videos that are captured during the night vision mode in CCTV cameras will be visible in Black & White only. Few latest brands Bullet cameras are built up with LED lights which automatically turns on the LED light during the night vision mode, hence those cameras will capture the videos in full-color mode.
